YouTube is testing AI Overviews in search results. The company is showing a new carousel of video clips, generated by AI, that appears when users enter search queries.

The carousel highlights short snippets pulled from videos that directly answer or relate to users’ searches. According to the announcement, the feature will appear after specific queries, such as product comparisons or location-related searches.

Rollout and availability of YouTube AI Overviews

The test is currently available to a small number of YouTube Premium members in the U.S., and only for some English-language search queries. Eligible users can tap the three-dot menu on the carousel and rate the AI-curated results.

A familiar feature like Google’s AI Overviews

YouTube’s AI Overviews is similar to Google’s AI Overviews. Google has already begun rolling out AI summaries in its Search product and has expanded them to more users globally.

Google uses generative AI to pull summarized information from across the web and place it at the top of the search results page. YouTube’s AI Overviews apply that same concept to video content. It’s another sign that Google is moving toward more generative search experiences.
