X (formerly Twitter) is developing a new tool for video conferencing. This update, still in its early stages, aims to allow users to hold online meetings, similar to other platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.

Chris Park, Co-head of X Developer Platform, broke the news in a tweet. “First ever X Conference meeting with some of my great @X and @XDevelopers teammates,” Park tweeted.

Park revealed that the team gave positive initial feedback, hinting at a potential product that might rival other video conferencing platforms. X CEO, Elon Musk responded to Park’s post with a fire emoji, further confirming the platform’s plan to release this tool.

Key features of X’s new video conferencing tool

Park mentioned some features of X’s conferencing tool that are “likely coming.” These features include an improved notification tool for when participants join or leave a meeting, the ability to pin main speakers or participants, and reduced changes to the main panel to prevent the constant switching of displayed faces.

Accessibility and functionality

In a tweet, X user, P4mui said that users could create new meetings directly from the X iOS app, offering both instant and scheduled options.

P4mui also confirmed in another tweet that “X/Twitter continues to develop the conference feature, on X 10.56 on iOS. You will soon be able to click on the video call button in a group to create a conference.”

Also, hosts may be able to assign unique codes to each meeting, which participants would need to enter to join. This feature aims to enhance both security and convenience.

Elon Musk's X appears to be expanding its services. In July, it introduced its AI-powered 'Trend Genius’ for advertisers and secured a money transmitter license in the District of Columbia, as it plans to integrate payment within the app. However, X is now facing potential fines and bans in the EU due to its sale of verification ticks, which the Commission ruled violates the Digital Services Act (DSA).
