Yesterday, Instagram head, Adam Mosseri said Threads added “more than 15 million sign-ups in November alone.” According to Mosseri, the platform has consistently pulled in over a million new signups daily.Â
Mosseri said while these numbers are promising, there’s still work to do. “We have a lot more work to do,” he said. He also noted that Meta teams are “working hard to get this community what they need.”
Threads comparison with Bluesky and X
On Wednesday, Bluesky announced it gained about 2.5 million new users in the past week, raising its total user base to 15 million from 13 million at the end of October.Â
“We’re seeing record-high activity levels across all different forms of engagement: likes, follows, new accounts, etc., and we’re on track to add 1 million new users in one day alone,” The platform said.
However, Threads claimed it gained 275 million active users in October, up from 200 million in May since its launch in July 2023.
Despite the growth of Threads and Bluesky, X remains the app with the largest user base. In May, Elon Musk claimed the platform had 600 million monthly users. However, data by Sensor Tower estimated X’s monthly user base at 318 million in October.
Changes coming to ThreadsÂ
Mosseri also said the platform will no longer prompt new users to follow everyone they already follow on Instagram. “We’ve been running a test for a while now, and it looks like people actually prefer their experience if they build a different graph on Threads than the graph that they had on Instagram,” he explained.
Reports say ads might be coming to Threads as early as January next year. Previously, Mosseri hinted that Meta plans to monetize Threads. Â
