Reddit's upcoming AI-powered search summaries
In a recent earnings call, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman announced that Reddit will introduce AI-generated summaries at the top of its search results. Explaining the goal of this new feature, Huffman said that AI summaries will “summarize and recommend content” and enable users to "dive deeper into products, shows, games and discover new communities on Reddit."
Huffman also noted that the AI summaries will use a combination of technologies developed internally by Reddit and external technologies provided by other platforms. In other words, it leverages both first-party and third-party technologies.
Industry adoption
Currently, companies including Google and Meta have introduced similar features. Google has introduced AI overviews and recently began testing ads within this tool. Last month, Meta started testing its AI summaries on Facebook.
Also, YouTube has a feature that categorizes discussions into topics, while X offers Grok-powered summaries for premium subscribers.
