Perplexity has introduced a new shopping feature for its U.S Pro users. The feature allows users to search for products and place orders directly within Perplexity’s AI search engine.
The company said, “Today, we’re excited to launch a new experience for shopping. Perplexity is now a one-stop solution where you can research and purchase products.”
When Pro members search for products on Perplexity, they’ll see visual cards featuring product details, prices, seller information, pros and cons, and a short description. Users can also see more product information by clicking the cards.
For eligible products, users can click the “Buy with Pro” button, which automatically processes the order using saved billing and shipping details. The platform estimates taxes and offers free shipping on all purchases made through “Buy with Pro.” If a product isn’t available through the feature, users are redirected to the merchant’s website to complete their purchase.
The new shopping is powered by platforms including Shopify. The platform integrates Shopify’s API to gain access to the product catalog and merchant network.
Previously called “Pro Shop,” the feature has been in testing for six weeks with about 1,000 users before its broader U.S. rollout. Perplexity plans to expand the shopping service to new markets soon.
Snap to Shop
Perplexity is also introducing a “Snap to Shop” feature, which lets users upload photos of products to initiate searches. This feature is like Google’s image-plus-text search capability.
Perplexity Merchant Program
The AI search engine is also launching its Merchant program for free. Merchants can share product details with the platform and use a free API to power search functionality on their websites. The company said that the shopping feature operates independently from its ads product, and it isn’t taking affiliate commissions from purchases.
Perplexity seems intent on challenging e-commerce giants like Amazon and Google Shopping. Just last week, the company began testing ads on its platform in the U.S.
