OpenAI has expanded SearchGPT to all ChatGPT users. The company announced the rollout on the eighth day of OpenAI’s live-streamed product events.Â
Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, said during the event, “I can’t imagine ChatGPT without Search now. I use it so often. I’m excited to be bringing it to all of you starting today.”
SearchGPT has undergone testing since its prototype launch in July. In October, the feature became available exclusively to paid subscribers, and now it’s accessible to all users.Â
Key features of SearchGPTÂ
SearchGPT’s search results will now support content like videos, allowing users to watch videos directly within ChatGPT without leaving the app. Images and links are also supported. Users can also click on search results to find more answers and information.Â
According to the platform, users can also conduct searches using voice commands. OpenAI said this feature would roll out globally to all users over the next week.
SearchGPT is available on all platforms where ChatGPT operates, including mobile apps and the website. ChatGPT users can set SearchGPT as their default search engine within their web browser.
OpenAI entered the AI search race with SearchGPT to compete with Google Search, Microsoft’s Bing, and other AI search engines like Perplexity AI. Meta is also reportedly developing an AI search engine.
The company claims that SearchGPT will provide “timely answers” and real-time information to users. As part of its product announcements, OpenAI also launched its text-to-image model, Sora, and introduced a $200 per month ChatGPT Pro subscription.
