Meta is introducing a new program for U.S. creators to earn money from posting Reels on Facebook and Instagram. The strategy called the ‘Breakthrough Bonus program,” is open to creators who have not previously monetized content on Facebook.
The move comes amid the ongoing issues surrounding TikTok's future in the U.S. Meta seems to be interested in attracting TikTok creators to its platforms.
Who is Eligible for the Breakthrough Bonus Program?
Meta says that the Breakthrough Bonus is open to creators who are new to Facebook and Instagram and have never previously monetized their content on Facebook.
To qualify for the Breakthrough Bonus program, creators must meet a few key conditions. They need to be based in the U.S., 18 years or older, and have an existing presence on a third-party social platform, like TikTok. According to Meta, the bonus amount will be determined based on an evaluation of the creator's social media presence.
Details about The Breakthrough Bonus Program
To receive the monthly Breakthrough bonus, creators must meet specific posting requirements. Creators must share at least 20 Reels on Facebook and 10 Reels on Instagram within each 30-day bonus period. They should also ensure all Reels are public and shared on a minimum of 10 separate days.
Eligible TikTok creators who meet these conditions can earn up to $5,000 over three months by posting Reels. In addition, creators will be immediately granted access to Facebook's Content Monetization program, allowing them to earn money from their posts.
Additional support for creators
Meta is also offering further support for creators. The platform is presenting content deals to help creators grow their communities on Instagram and Facebook.
Some creators may be given a one-year trial of Meta Verified, which offers benefits like impersonation protection and enhanced customer support. The platform will also allow creators from other social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube to display their handles and number of followers in their Facebook profiles.
New features for Reels
Meta is also making changes to Reels. Instagram creators in the U.S. can now post Reels up to three minutes long. Previously, the short-form video format had a 90-second limit. However, this is still shorter than TikTok's 10-minute video limit.
Meta also claims to be improving its ranking system to give newer creators better exposure.
