Google has announced a limited test of AI-generated background images for Shopping Ads, per Search Engine Land. The company notified advertisers that some product listings may appear with AI-generated backgrounds designed to enhance visual appeal.
The test is temporary, and all AI-generated images will go through human review and approval before they are displayed.
How AI-generated backgrounds work
According to Google, its AI technology will create contextual background scenes around product images while keeping the original product unchanged. This means only the background will be altered, while the product remains the same. Advertisers can decide to opt out if they don’t want their products included in the test.
