Canva raises subscription prices by 300% for Teams users
Canva has increased its subscription plans for customers using Canva Teams. The company notified customers of the change via email last week.Â
This move follows Canva's acquisition of design platform Affinity in March. The change also comes as the company prepares for a potential U.S. public listing in 2026.
Canva's new pricing structure
Canva’s new pricing structure for Teams will see users in the U.S. pay an annual fee of up to $500, though an introductory discount will lower this to $300 for the first year.
In Australia, the cost for a team of five will increase by 68%, from a flat fee of AUD 39.99 per month to a per-user fee of AUD 13.50.
The company had previously updated its price for new Teams subscribers to $10 per month for each user. Existing subscribers, who previously enjoyed lower rates, will be moved to this new pricing plan starting in September.Â
However, this new price increase does not apply to other subscription levels, such as Pro and Enterprise.
Canva’s reason for the increase in its subscription plansÂ
Canva says the increase in subscription prices is due to its expanded features and investment in AI-powered design tools.Â
Canva’s communications lead, Louisa Green, explained that this change reflects the value of the company’s expanded product experience. “Our suite of products has grown significantly over the last couple of years with the launch of new offerings like the Visual Suite and Magic Studio,” Green said.Â
Users’ reaction and response
Many users have expressed their dissatisfaction over the sharp increase in subscription fees. Some users have already announced their intention to move to Adobe's suite.
An X user, with the username @Rahll said, “A 300% price increase is seriously insane, are they out of their minds? AI is such a scam.”
Another user on X, @BugNinza tweeted, “I have an early subscription to Canva, but they claim their AI features justify a 300% price increase. I don’t think the broken features are worth the extra cost, so I’ll definitely cancel my subscription.”
Previously, Canva was seen as a less expensive alternative to other design tools like Adobe design software.Â
