Bluesky says users can now upload videos up to three minutes long. This is an increase from the previous 60-second limit. This update is part of Bluesky’s app version 1.99.

Video has been a growing area for Bluesky. The platform first introduced video uploads in September with a one-minute cap. Since then, it has added more video-driven features, including custom video feeds in the Explore tab and a dedicated video tab where users can showcase all their uploaded content.

📢 App Version 1.99 is rolling out now (1/5) With every update, we’re aiming to make the Internet less toxic, more fun, and more in your control. • 3 minute videos! • A separate request inbox for DMs from unknown users • Mute accounts more quickly

This move makes the decentralized platform a competitor with other social media platforms, increasing its focus on short-form content. For instance, Threads supports videos up to five minutes long, while X allows non-premium users to upload videos up to two minutes and 20 seconds.

Bluesky adds “Chat Requests”

Bluesky has also introduced a new “Chat Requests” feature, which lets users manage messages from people they don’t follow. Similar to X’s Message Requests, this feature appears as a banner at the top of users’ inboxes. It allows users to filter and respond to incoming DMs, and through this new screen, users can either accept or reject conversation requests.

Expanded muting feature

The platform says it is also rolling out muting options. Now, users can mute an account directly from the three-dot menu on a post instead of navigating through multiple settings. Additionally, the platform has improved its moderation reporting flow for users to report issues.
