Expanding e-commerce across Europe
TikTok Shop’s debut in Spain follows earlier rollout in countries such as Indonesia, the United States, and Vietnam. The platform is looking to expand across Europe and has announced plans to expand its shopping services to France, Germany, and Italy.
In Spain, TikTok claims a significant user base of 20 million monthly users. It is aiming to compete with major e-commerce retailers like Amazon, Temu, and Shein.
TikTok currently battles legal challenges in the U.S. Last week, a Federal Appeals court upheld a law requiring its parent company, ByteDance, to sell the company by January 19 next year or face a U.S. ban.
Despite these challenges, TikTok aims for significant growth, targeting $17 billion in Gross Merchandise Value for 2024. During its U.S. Black Friday 2024 sales, the platform reported $100 million in sales, a 165% increase in shoppers compared to the previous year.
