Google has launched Gemini 2.0, bringing it to the AI Overviews feature in Search. According to the platform, the tool is designed to handle multimodal tasks, complex queries, and multi-step questions.
The platform says Gemini 2.0 is an upgrade of its Gemini 1.0. It introduces features like native image and audio output. “If Gemini 1.0 was about organizing and understanding information, Gemini 2.0 is about making it much more useful,” Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, said.
Gemini 2.0 is integrating into AI OverviewsÂ
Google says it is integrating Gemini 2.0 into its AI Overviews feature in Search. According to the company, Gemini 2.0Â aims to enhance how Search processes complex topics like detailed equations or mixed-media queries.
The new feature is currently undergoing limited testing. Google stated that a full rollout is scheduled for early 2025. Google also plans to expand this feature to additional countries and languages in the coming year.

Project Mariner
Google is also testing Project Mariner, a prototype powered by Gemini 2.0. Google said the tool will use AI to navigate web pages by recognizing images, pixels, text, and code. It will enable it to get detailed answers to user queries.Â
According to Google, Project Mariner is “an early research prototype… exploring the future of human-agent interaction, starting with your browser.”
