OpenAI will integrate Reddit posts within ChatGPT to help users "discover and engage with Reddit communities." The partnership will also enable Reddit to bring OpenAI-powered features to Redditors and moderators.

This follows an announcement earlier this year that Reddit secured a $60M partnership with Google to train its AI models.

TikTok has progressively increased its video length limits over time. At launch, videos were 15 seconds per clip, which extended to 60 seconds, then 3 minutes, then 5 minutes, before rising to 10 minutes in 2022.

Now hour-long videos could open up the platform to more entertainment styles.

The overviews provide natural language answers to search queries using generative AI powered by Google Gemini. They give a few snippets of an answer based on their understanding of queries and the sources they found across the web.

Users won’t see AI Overviews for all searches. AI Overviews will only show for more complex questions. The Overviews will be available globally by the end of 2024.

Contrary to rumors and a recent report, OpenAI will not announce an AI-powered search engine at an event on Monday, Sam Altman clarified on X.

Altman said; "We’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! Feels like magic to me."

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman recently highlighted that the platform receives over a billion search queries per month and suggested that offering search advertising opportunities is inevitable. 

No hint of a timeline was given but with Reddit's recent IPO, additional ad products are likely to arrive quickly.

TikTok argues that the law that seeks to force Bytedance to sell is unconstitutional and a breach of the free speech rights of its 170 million American users.

Under the law, if Bytedance refused to sell, app stores would be stopped from offering TikTok in the U.S. from January 2025

In the past, Instagram's ranking system has effectively given more reach to creators with larger followings. With a new algorithm change, Instagram will start pieces of content off with an equal chance.

Here is how ranking will work now:

  • Eligible content is shown to a small audience that Instagram thinks will enjoy it (regardless of whether they follow the account that posted it or not).

  • As this audience engages with the content, the top-performing set of Reels are shown to a slightly wider audience, and then the best of these are shown to an even wider group.

  • And so on

Originality will also now be prioritized. When Instagram finds identical pieces of content, Instagram with only recommend the original one.
